The Glens Falls Inn Provides Cozy Character and Downtown Convenience

Nestled on Sherman Avenue in Glens Falls is a 19-century Victorian home, which has been converted into The Glens Falls Inn. The Glens Falls Inn provides a unique guest experience, with old-world charm in harmony with updated amenities. The house has high ceilings, original molding, hardwood floors, and pocket doors.

There are a variety of bookings that are available to guests: booking the entire home gives guests six suites that each have private bathrooms, and use of the kitchen, living room, and dining room is included for this booking.

Guests who book an individual room, will have shared access to the sitting parlor, living room, dining room, and wrap around front porch; however, cooking and laundry will not be available. The laundry room is available for guests who book for seven days or more. This service will be at an additional cost and will need to be requested prior to the booking.

The Glens Falls Inn also features a 3rd floor apartment known as the ‘Top of the Inn” or Inn-Keepers’ Quarters. This unique space offers one bedroom, a gas fireplace, a kitchen, a full bath, and laundry. This special, separate unit is only sometimes available for reservations. The first floor is handicapped accessible, and there is a handicap accessible bedroom on the first floor as well.

Michelle Jones – Owner and Innkeeper – took ownership of the Inn in 2018. Since then, Michelle has been working to bring back the charm and character of this historical structure, as it’s a great place for family reunions, and small weddings. Michelle makes it a point to meet guests, help them feel at home, and give some helpful hints.

When the entire house is booked, Michelle is available via cell phone, and is usually 20 to 30 minutes away if guests are in need of any assistance. Michelle was born and raised in Glens Falls, and carried on the tradition by raising her own family there. City of Glens Falls Halts 2 Bus Routes Due to Shortage of Bus Drivers

Effective December 16, 2022, Greater Glens Falls Transit (GGFT) will be suspending specific bus routes due to a shortage of bus drivers: the routes that will be affected are Route 4, and Route 11 & 12. These changes will affect weekday routes.

The Route 4 line currently leaves Glens Falls and travels to Hudson Falls and Fort Edward, along Quaker Road and Boulevard. This route leaves Ridge Street in Downtown Glens Falls at 11:30 AM, 1:30 PM, & 2:30 PM. This route is being suspended.

Route 11 & 12 will also be suspended. This bus route currently travels to Upper Glen Street from Ridge Street in Downtown Glens Falls, at 9:30 AM, 10:30 AM, 11:00 AM, 12:30 PM, 1:00 PM, & 3:30 PM.

Due to these routes being suspended, the GGFT has modified Route 19: at 9:30 & 10:30, that route will be rerouted to use Glen Street instead of Bay Street and Quaker Road. These routes will service Walmart on Upper Glen Street, and the Montcalm Apartments.

The service changes will be in effect until further notice, and GGFT has alerted the other municipalities that will be affected by these changes.

The GGFT began operation in 1984 and is estimated to transport over 320,000 riders annually. Routes are operated Monday through Friday, from 6:30 AM to 9:45 PM, & Saturdays 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Glens Falls Ladies’ Night

On Thursday, December 8th, The Glens Falls Collaborative is hosting Glens Falls Ladies Night from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Participating businesses will stay open late, offering a variety of discounts; and bars, restaurants & eateries will have special offerings as well.

The Glens Falls Collaborative is a membership organization whose mission is to band together and support Glens Falls. This group organizes festivals, creates advertisements and holds mixers, along with working with the city of Glens Falls on hospitality efforts.

Amongst the shops and stores that are participating in this event, there will also be a pop up party at The WorkSmart Coworking & Meeting Space. This shared workspace concept is a locally owned and certified NYS women-owned business, which is owned by Christy Alexander. The workspace is scaled to individual needs, and utilizes membership plans with different tiers: the four tier system ranges from a $25 per day drop in pass, $159 per month shared workspace, $309 per month dedicated desk, & $409 and up per private office.

The WorkSmart concept helps people who work remotely create a dedicated workspace. There are some challenges to working from home, including distractions, and the blurred lines between home life and work life… WorkSmart creates an environment where people can better concentrate on their work, and also collaborate with other professionals. For people interested in trying out the workspace, there are $25 “Drop-In Passes” available. These passes can be purchased online, and offer a choice of using the shared workspace or a private office; or a meeting room can also be booked. Santa Claus is Coming to Town

Tonight – Friday, December 2nd, at 5:15 PM, Santa Claus is coming to town! The Glens Falls Holiday Parade kicks off at Crandall Park, and will proceed down Glen Street to Glens Falls City Park. Santa himself will be there, along with Mayor Bill Collins. Come and join the fun!

At 6:15 PM, Santa and City Officials will be lighting the Glens Falls Christmas Tree in Glens Falls City Park, near Crandall Library. If you are looking for a visit with Santa, you just may get your wish: from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM, there will be an opportunity to visit with Santa at Glens Falls National Bank Wealth Management Building. If it’s a letter to Santa that you have in mind, Glens Falls City Hall will have that all ready for you: in front of City Hall, there will be a special mailbox for letters to Santa at the North Pole. Don’t forget to include a return address so that Santa can respond!!

Downtown shops will also be open for this Holiday Festival! There will be live entertainment, and costumed characters between 5:15 PM and 8:00 PM. Glens Falls City Park will also be hosting the Adirondack Christkindlmarkt: come see your friends and neighbors, finish off your holiday shopping, and enjoy some live entertainment! Catholic Charities Hosts 27th Annual Saratoga Festival of Trees Event

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – Catholic Charities of Saratoga, Warren and Washington Counties invites the local community to unwrap the magic of the holiday season at their 27th annual fundraiser – The Festival of Trees – on Wednesday, November 30 through Sunday, December 4, at the Saratoga Springs City Center.

The Festival returns with a showcase of beautifully decorated trees, wreaths and other holiday and gift items for purchase. Festival proceeds will benefit the programs of Catholic Charities of Saratoga, Warren and Washington Counties. The Festival of Trees event hours vary as follows: Festival of Trees Preview Reception, Wednesday, November 30, 6-8pm; Festival of Trees, Thursday, Dec. 1, 4-9pm; Friday, Dec. 2, 3-8pm; Saturday, Dec. 3, 12-7pm; and Sunday, Dec 4, 11-2pm. Tickets are $10 per person, $5 for Seniors, $5 for ages over 10 and free for anyone 10 and under, when accompanied by an adult. Special admission pricing set at $5 will be offered on Thursday of Victorian Streetwalk Weekend after 5pm. Festival of Trees tickets can be purchased at the entrance to the Festival. After a two-year pause, Breakfast with Santa returns this year. There are three Breakfasts with Santa on Saturday, December 3: the first scheduled for 8:30-9:30, then 10-11 and 11:30-12:30; Sundaes with Santa follows from 1-2pm. Tickets are $10 each. Children 2 and under are free. Adults must accompany children. Tickets include either the breakfast or sundae, a tour of the Festival of Trees, a photo with Santa and access to a variety of children’s activities for $1 per ticket. Activities include cookie decorating, face painting, manicures, ornament making, picture frame creating and letters to Santa. There will also be a Holiday Shop with gifts for purchase. NYS Volleyball Tournament Returns To The Cool Insuring Arena

The New York State Public High School Girls’ Volleyball Tournament will return to the Cool Insuring Arena in Glens Falls on Saturday, November 19th and Sunday, November 20th. This is the 16th year that the Cool Insuring Arena has hosted the tournament.

The event features competition between five classes, and four teams qualify in each class. During pool play, teams will play each other once. Then, the top two teams (determined by the pool play records) will advance to the finals, with tie-breakers used as needed.

Opening ceremonies are set to begin at 7:45 AM on Saturday morning. At 8:30 AM, the morning pool play will begin, and the afternoon pool play is scheduled to begin at 3:00 PM. The finals on Sunday will start at 10:00 AM for Class D, 12:00 PM for Class AA and C, and 2:00 PM for Class A and B. The competing teams this session will include Lake George, Shenendehowa, Burnt Hills, and Galway.

Doc’s Restaurant is Moving to Park & Elm

Doc’s Restaurant – which is currently located in the historic Park Theater – will soon be moving across the street, with their last night of service on Saturday, November 19th. This move is part of a rebranding of Doc’s Restaurant, which will be called “Park & Elm”. At their current location, the kitchen can serve up to 60-65 people and the dining room could hold up to 50 guests; however, due to special events and high demand, Doc’s needed a larger kitchen and more space… When Doc’s would have a special event with 50 people or more, the restaurant would have to close because the original facility could not support both the event and regular dining.

Elizabeth and Ben Miller are the power behind the revitalization of this section of downtown Glens Falls. The mother and son team have invested in this area to fill a void in the community, and so Park & Elm will be a restaurant and specialty market. The specialty market and deli will feature local products as well as craft beer, in addition to specialty meats and cheeses as well as more common grocery items. The Millers crafted this concept with the neighborhood in mind; Glens Falls Hospital is within walking distance of Park & Elm. This creates a built-in customer base of hospital employees and visitors alike!

The market and deli will have an open house on Saturday, November 19th from 7am-9pm; this will also the final night of service across the street at Doc’s. The market and deli will be fully open to the public, with the restaurant’s opening date still to be announced; the move will be conducted over the next few weeks. Gift certificates that were purchased at Doc’s will be honored at the new restaurant.

The executive chef – Matthew J. Delos – will have the same role at Park & Elm. To sum up: Park & Elm will be substantially bigger than Doc’s Restaurant. The dining room will be able to seat 85 guests inside, and 60 additional guests on the patio. For more information, please visit park&elm.com

The Queensbury Hotel and Chapman Museum Pair Nicely Together

On Friday November 11th, The Queensbury Hotel hosted the 16th annual Wine & Chocolate Tasting to benefit The Chapman Museum. “Dry! Robust! Pairs wells with oysters!” Could be heard from the wine vendor tables. Museum supporters wandered the ballroom sipping wine and spirits and enjoying savory chocolates and cheeses.

Friday night’s festivities were not dampened by the rainy weather. Guests varied from couples out for a date night, to groups of friends, to active community supporters. Tickets for the event were $45.00 online or $50.00 at the door. This event featured 28 tables filled with samples of wine and spirits, chocolates/desserts and locally sourced cheese. There were raffles, a door prize, and an online auction. Volunteers at the event were very happy with the turn out. Annie Deppe was asked by a neighbor to volunteer the day before the event. She was happy to do it, “It’s a worthwhile cause and always nice to be involved in community events.” Deppe said as she rearranged wine glasses which were given to each guest as they arrived. The guests casually mingled around the event space, glass in hand, eager to sample the offerings from each table.

Chapman Museum Volunteers: Beth Roach, Sue Merrill,& Annie Deppe

The Chapman Museum is a local gem. It has a long and storied history that dates back to 1867. At that time hardware merchant, Zopher Delong owned the house. He remodeled what had been a modest wood framed house. He turned it into the structure visitors see today. It is a two story brick building with a Mansard roof. This type of roof maximizes the interior space of the attic.

In the late 1960’s Juliet Chapman donated the house to the community. The museum received a permanent charter from the New York State Board of Regents in 1968. Goals of the Chapman Museum include, to increase knowledge of local history and to inspire a greater sense of community. Since the time of its original charter the museum has added exhibition galleries, climate controlled collections storage, a research room, a multi purpose classroom and a museum shop.

The museum has public hours: Tuesday-Saturday from 10am-4pm & Sunday hours from 12pm-4pm. Admission is a suggested donation of $5 for Adults, $4 Seniors & Students. Trey Anastasio Band And Goose at the Cool Insuring Arena

In downtown Glens Falls Sunday night, Trey Anastasio Band teamed up with Goose and performed at the Cool Insuring Arena. The vibe was festive as a large crowd of concert goers were enjoying the local downtown scene.

Before the show, concert goers were mingling in front of bars and restaurants from Spot Coffee, all the way down to the traffic circle. The crowd was jovial and excited.

At the Cool Insuring Arena the line of ticket holders stretched onto the bridge to South Glens Falls. On the other side of the arena, the line of ticket holders stretched on the sidewalk up the street.

Concert goers waited patiently. Some were told they were in the wrong line and had to go to the back of the other line. Security took their time checking each ticket and patting down each concert goer. Ticket holders in the crowd streamed the music on their phone that was already taking place inside the venue. Concert goers and security alike were patient, calm, and kind to each other as the line moved along.

Trey Anastasio Band, fondly known as TAB, started in 1998. Trey Anastasio is a founding member of the band Phish, founded in 1983. The band Goose was formed in 2014. The members are Rick Mitarotonda (vocals & guitar), Ben Atkind (drums), Trevor Weekz (bass), Jeff Arevalo (vocals, percussion & drums), and Peter Anspach (vocals, keys & guitar). For more information go to goosetheband.com. The band Goose has regularly been compared to jam bands such as Phish and Umphrey’s McGee. However, they refer to their style of music as “indie groove”.
