Queensbury girls soccer runs past S.G.F.

SOUTH GLENS FALLS — The Queensbury varsity girls soccer team pulled away in the second half, scoring three goals to help earn a 4-1 victory over South Glens Falls on Thursday.

The Spartans led 1-0 at halftime after a goal by Maddie Macaulay, and scored twice in the first 10 minutes of the second half. Bayley Duffy found Mia Keshmiri, who finished to extend the lead to 2-0, before Meredith Montgomery finished a feed from Allison Dittrich to make it 3-0.

Queensbury added another goal later in the half, with Tekla Fine-Lease scoring off an assist by Duffy to extend the lead to 4-0. The Bulldogs got a late goal, a free kick by Ashlyn Fish, to make it 4-1, and the Spartans held on for the win.

Macaulay, Keshmiri, Montgomery, and Fine-Lease scored goals for the Spartans, while Duffy had two assists and Dittrich added one. Shea Canavan made one save in goal for the Spartans, while Elena Kennedy stopped 13 shots for South Glens Falls.

Queensbury improves to 8-2 on the season, and will play at Schuylerville at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. South Glens Falls will play at Glens Falls at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Queensbury boys soccer pulls away from Glens Falls

GLENS FALLS — The Queensbury varsity boys soccer team pulled away in the second half, finishing a 4-0 win on the road against Glens Falls on Tuesday.

The game was scoreless at halftime, with neither team able to find many strong scoring opportunities. Queensbury began generating some scoring chances in the second half, and broke through when Luke Eichen finished a crossing pass from Gavin Kelly in the 59th minute.

Only two minutes later, Kelly found Max Roca, who tucked a shot home to give the Spartans a 2-0 lead. Kelly added a goal in the 69th minute, and Roca quickly followed it up with his second goal in the 72nd minute, giving Queensbury a 4-0 victory.

Roca scored twice and added an assist for the Spartans, while Kelly had a goal and two assists. Eichen scored a goal, while Jake Afsar-Keshmiri made eight saves in goal. For Glens Falls, Ayden Grieve stopped four shots and Cam Pratt stopped one in net.

Queensbury will play at South Glens Falls at 7 p.m. tomorrow.

Queensbury girls soccer, field hockey earn Tuesday victories

GLENS FALLS — The Queensbury varsity girls soccer team picked up another shutout victory on Tuesday, pulling away from Glens Falls for a 6-0 win.

The game was scoreless for much of the opening half, until Bayley Duffy finished off a feed by Ava Stewart to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead. Ava Roca found Duffy for another goal just a minute later to double the lead.

Stewart sent Queensbury into the half on a high-note, scoring a buzzer-beating goal after finishing off a feed by Meredith Montgomery with one second left in the first half. Duffy added two more goals in the second half, making it 5-0, before Aislynn Dixon scored to give Queensbury a 6-0 lead.

Duffy had four goals for the Spartans, while Stewart had a goal and two assists. Dixon had a goal and an assist, while Roca and Montgomery each added an assist. Shea Canavan stopped seven shots in goal for the shutout. Glens Falls’ Sarah Wolfstitch made 12 saves in the loss.

Queensbury will travel to face South Glens Falls at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Hand’s hat trick guides Spartan field hockey past Scotia

QUEENSBURY — The Queensbury varsity field hockey team rolled to another win on Tuesday, defeating Scotia-Glenville 7-1 at home.

Dani Hand had three goals and two assists to lead the Spartans, while Gianna Marcantonio and Kendra Ballard each had a goal and an assist. Ryan Allen and Lilyauna Hazelton both added goals for Queensbury.

Kendal Kelsey and Ellie Althoff also picked up assists for the Spartans, while Abigail Kittell made two saves in goal. 

Scotia’s lone goal was scored by Autumn Kramer, with Mady Reed picking up an assist. Maya Westbrook stopped 15 shots in goal for the Tartans.

Queensbury improves to 8-1 with the victory, and will face South Glens Falls on the road Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

Queensbury boys soccer cruises past Johnstown

QUEENSBURY — The Queensbury varsity boys soccer team took control early and never looked back on Monday, defeating Johnstown 11-0 at home.

The Spartans scored four goals in the game’s opening 15 minutes, eventually building a 9-0 lead at halftime before adding two more goals in the second half. Ian Rathbun and Luke Eichin each recorded hat tricks for Queensbury, scoring three goals apiece.

Chris Coombes scored twice, while Max Roca had a goal and three assists. Ryan Brindle had a goal and an assist, while Ben Barber also scored a goal for Queensbury. Aidan Perez, Okacha Cunningham, Ethan Moger, and Bergen Caprood all picked up assists in the win.

Jake Afsar-Keshmiri made one save in goal for the Spartans. Johnstown’s Pedrick Maddox stopped 13 shots in net.

Queensbury will return to action when the team plays at Glens Falls at 4:30 p.m. tomorrow.

Queensbury Soccer Teams Earn Weekend Sweep

HUDSON FALLS — The Queensbury varsity boys soccer team rolled past Hudson Falls on Saturday, cruising to an 8-0 win on the road.

Bryce Jorgensen and Aidan Perez each scored their first varsity goals in the opening half, with tallies by Ian Rathbun and Gavin Kelly pacing the Spartans to a 4-0 lead at the break. Kelly and Rathbun each added another goal, with a goal by Jake Afsar-Keshmiri and a Hudson Falls own goal pacing Queensbury to an 8-0 victory.

Rathbun picked up an assist in the win as well, with Max Roca, Jack Grant, Tyler Zehr, and Ryan Brindle also adding assists for the Spartans. Jake Afsar-Keshmiri and Chris Coombes combined for the shutout in goal, while Mitchell Harrington stopped four shots for Hudson Falls.

Queensbury hosts Johnstown at 4:30 p.m. this afternoon.

Queensbury girls soccer shuts out Gloversville

QUEENSBURY — The Queensbury varsity girls soccer team jumped out to an early lead and never looked back on Saturday, defeating Gloversville 6-0 at home.

Bayley Duffy scored two goals and added an assist for the Spartans, while Ava Roca and Ava Stewart each had a goal and an assist. Allison Dittrich and Meredith Montgomery also scored goals, while Mia Keshmiri and Emily Tenner both picked up assists.

Shea Canavan made six saves in goal for the Spartans, while Jalyn Smith stopped 14 shots for Gloversville. 

Queensbury will play at Glens Falls at 4:30 p.m. tomorrow.

Hand’s hat trick guides Queensbury field hockey past Schuylerville

QUEENSBURY — The Queensbury varsity field hockey team earned a shutout against Schuylerville on Thursday, winning 3-0 at home behind three goals by Dani Hand.

Hand scored twice in the first half, pacing the Spartans to a 2-0 lead at the break. The senior completed the hat trick in the second half, giving Queensbury a 3-0 lead. Ryan Allen and Kaitlyn Barton each picked up assists in the win.

Queensbury had 14 corners to Schuylerville’s 3, while Black Horses goalie Petra Gamage made 19 saves. Abigail Kittell stopped two shots in the win for the Spartans.

Queensbury will return to action when the team hosts Scotia-Glenville at 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 27.

Queensbury boys soccer earns 500th win in team history

QUEENSBURY — The Queensbury varsity boys soccer team reached a milestone on Wednesday, holding off Schuylerville for a 2-1 victory at home.

The win was the 500th in the history of the Spartans’ boys soccer program, according to the school’s athletic page on Twitter. The team came firing out of the gate on Wednesday, scoring twice in the opening minutes.

Gavin Kelly scored the game’s opening goal, finishing a feed from Ian Rathbun to give Queensbury an early 1-0 lead. Less than a minute later, a shot by Max Roca deflected off a Black Horses defender and in, giving the Spartans a 2-0 lead.

Schuylerville eventually settled in late in the half, but Spartan goalie Jake Afsar-Keshmiri made several quality stops to keep the Black Horses off the board and send Queensbury to the half with a 2-0 lead.

The visiting team was able to generate more pressure in the second half, and got on the board in the 53rd minute. A misplay by the Queensbury defense allowed an opportunity for Alex Renner, and he finished to cut the Spartans’ lead to 2-1.

Queensbury was able to buckle down, however, turning away all other opportunities and holding on for a 2-1 win. Afsar-Keshmiri made seven saves in goal for the Spartans.

Kelly and Roca each scored goals, while Rathbun had an assist for Queensbury. Renner scored the lone goal for Schuylerville, with Griffin Brophy making four saves in goal.

Queensbury will play at Hudson Falls at 4:30 p.m. tomorrow.

Hand reaches 50 career goals in 9-0 win

GLOVERSVILLE — Queensbury field hockey senior Dani Hand put herself in the Spartans’ record books on Tuesday, reaching the 50-goal milestone in a 9-0 win on the road against Gloversville.

Hand scored four goals and added an assist, becoming the fourth player in Queensbury field hockey history to score 50 career goals. The senior is fifth in points in team history, with 76 (50 goals, 26 assists). Hand’s older sister, Stephanie, is second in team history with 84 goals, behind Laura Gersten (127 career goals).

Ryan Allen added two goals for the Spartans in Tuesday’s win, while Gianna Marcantonio, Brianna Zehr, and Kendal Kelsey also scored goals. Kendra Bullard had two assists for Queensbury, with Lilyauna Hazelton and Maddy Moger also adding assists.

Felix Clo made 12 saves in goal for Gloversville, while Larissa Sheffield stopped eight shots.

Queensbury will host Schuylerville at 4:30 p.m. tomorrow.

Queensbury girls soccer cruises past Hudson Falls

HUDSON FALLS — The Queensbury varsity girls soccer team rolled past Hudson Falls on Tuesday, earning a 7-0 win on the road.

Ava Roca opened the scoring with an unassisted goal, followed by a goal from Ava Stewart off an assist by Meredith Montgomery. Bayley Duffy extended the lead to 3-0, with a goal by Emily Tenner pushing the advantage to four goals.

Allison Dittrich made it 5-0 off an assist by Stewart, and Roca’s second goal stretched the lead to six. Dittrich’s second goal, assisted by Mia Keshmiri, brought the game to its 7-0 final score.

Stewart had a goal and three assists for the Spartans, while Roca and Dittrich each scored two goals. Duffy and Tenner also scored goals, with Montgomery and Keshmiri adding assists. Katie Mitchell made 18 saves in goal for Hudson Falls.

Queensbury will host Gloversville at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

Spartans Boys Soccer Ties La Salle

QUEENSBURY — The Queensbury varsity boys soccer team battled through their third overtime period in the last four games on Saturday, finishing with a scoreless tie against La Salle.

The Spartans had several chances in the opening half, but La Salle keeper Andrew Lee was able to turn them all away. On the other side, Jake Afsar-Keshmiri made several quality saves and kept the Cadets off the board after some strong chances in the second half.

Neither team was able to score in overtime, despite several chances, and the game ended in a 0-0 tie. Afsar-Keshmiri made 11 saves for the Spartans, while Lee stopped nine shots for La Salle.

Queensbury will host Schuylerville at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Queensbury Field Hockey Cruises Past Glens Falls

GLENS FALLS — The Queensbury varsity field hockey team cruised to victory on Friday, defeating Glens Falls 9-0 on the road.

Eight different players scored for the Spartans, with Lilyauna Hazelton netting two goals. Gianna Marcantonio, Sarah Nelson, and Brianna Zehr all scored their first varsity goals in the victory.

Dani Hand had a goal and two assists, while Kendal Kelsey and Ryan Allen each had a goal and an assist. Kendra Ballard added a goal, while Marcantonio and Ellie Althoff also picked up assists.

Glens Falls’ Maggie Goodwin made 11 saves in goal, with teammate Darielle Gooden stopping six shots. 

Queensbury will play at Granville at 4:30 p.m. today.
